This audit project was led by Dr Jacqueline Yek-Quen Mok, consultant paediatrician at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh and Professor Anthony Busuttil, consultant histopathologist in the Forensic Medicine Unit at the University of Edinburgh.
This was a two year project which started in May 2001 and ended in April 2003
The project involved multi-agency work between paediatricians, forensic medical examiners, Reporters to the Children?s Panel and the Procurators Fiscal in Scotland.
The audit sought to establish how widely guidance on child protection issued by the Scottish Executive Health Department, Protecting Children: A Shared Responsibility, was being followed by practitioners, NHS Boards and Trusts.
The audit also aimed to identify the medical practitioners involved, and the range of current practice in child sexual abuse examinations throughout Scotland.
