Aims and objectives

The project group is currently assessing the most appropriate way of reviewing performance against the standards and NHS QIS is in discussion with Audit Scotland to develop a joint review process.

Project history

The standards were developed as a response to a CRAG audit of nutrition and other research which verifies that malnutrition, particularly among the elderly and long stay patients, is evident in hospitals.  These standards address the issue of malnutrition in hospital and make the assessment of the nutritional status of patients, and subsequent incorporation of nutritional care in the care plan, mandatory.  Nutritional care is considered to be a clinical issue.
