This report describes the progress made across Scotland in meeting the NHS Quality Improvement (NHS QIS) standards for healthcare associated infection (HAI). This section of the report summarises the work carried out so far, and makes recommendations for what needs to be done next.
The NHS QIS findings reflect those published in England by the Department of Health in their report 'Winning Ways – Working together to reduce Healthcare Associated Infection in England', December 2003, and the National Audit Office in their report 'Improving Patient Care by Reducing the Risk of Hospital Acquired Infection: A Progress Report', July 2004, and this illustrates that, across the UK, we are facing the same problems and need to learn from each other’s experience.
