More about EQIA

EQIA is, in part, a response to the Race Relations Amendment Act 2000 (RRAA). The Act requires NHS Boards to assess their functions for relevance to race equality. However, the Scottish Executive Health Department EQIA Toolkit includes all six equality strands and other crosscutting ones to ensure that all policy and service development within NHS Scotland can be shown not to disadvantage any individuals because of their age, ethnicity, gender, religion or faith, disability or sexual orientation.

The first stage of an EQIA is a rapid impact assessment (RIA).  This will be followed by a full impact assessment (FIA) if the RIA findings merit it. The EQIA Publication Schedule indicates the policies, functions and products we intend assessing in the near future.  As these are completed, the report summaries will be published here.

All our EQIA policies and reports are available on request in formats such as Braille, audiocassette, large print and in minority languages to meet the needs of those not fluent in English.
