Project History

NHS QIS established a Children s Health Services Steering Group in August 2003 with a remit to consider both the work of NHS QIS and that of other organisations, and to scope the area of children s health services generally, to produce recommendations as to how NHS QIS can best support services in improving the quality of care for children, young people and their families.

A number of recommendations on work that could be carried by NHS QIS in the area of children s services during the development of the national strategic framework were included in the report, one of which was the development of standards for children with asthma. In conjunction with the project team, a clinical advisor undertook a 6 month scoping exercise in the area of children's asthma, reviewing current guidelines and evidence to inform the development of standards.

The Asthma Services for Children Project Group has been established to take forward this piece of work.
