About the Practice Development Network for Allied Health Professions - Prosthetics and Orthotics 

Prosthetists and Orthotists are delighted to be involved in this very successful project. Prosthetics and Orthotics is a very small profession, with only around 80 practitioners in Scotland. The profession is split into two main strands, Prosthetists and Orthotists. Although dual qualified, professionals in each strand generally works in one specialty or the other.
 
Representatives from both NHS and the commercial sector are involved, along with representatives from Education. Also included were both the Executive Professional Officer and Chairman of our Professional Body, The British Association of Prosthetists and Orthotists.

Mission Statement

The purpose of the practice development network for allied health professions - prosthetics and orthotics is to develop a communication and resource network for the P&O community to improve the quality of patient care.

Objectives

The practice development network for allied health professions - prosthetics and orthotics have agreed short and long term aims.

Aims of the Network:

  • To establish a regional Practice Development Network for the Prosthetic and Orthotic professions
  • To centralise information information related to practice development from regional networks and establish a national database of practice development projects in order to facilitate sharing of good practice
  • Identify resources and training required to support the network
  • Identify key priorities for the network
  • To provide regular feedback to clinicians on current practice development issues via local representatives, local network meetings, regular newsletters and the website
  • To promote the awareness of the practice development network for allied health professions - prosthetics and orthotics issues by developing links between the Network, Professional Bodies, HEIs, Users and other relevant stakeholders
  • To encourage collaborative working with other professions including medicine, nursing and the Allied Health Professions

Practice Development Network for Prosthetic and Orthotic
Prosthetics Event 14th September 07 

The Practice Development Network for Prosthetists and Orthotists hosted an event for prosthetists on Friday 14 September 2007. The poster below was developed by A.McQueen (Senior Orthotist), S. Fraser (Advanced Specialist Orthotist), M.Blyth (Consultant Othopaedic Surgeon), M.Cohen (ESP Orthopaedic Physiotherapist) and was awarded 2nd prize at the British Association of Prosthetists and Orthotists (BAPO) 2007.
