Nursing Network
Training Opportunity
In 2006 the Practice Development Unit of NHS Quality Improvement Scotland supported 350 nurses to do an Asthma course in collaboration with Education for Health. Following a successful celebration event in March at which the Health Minister presented nurses with their awards, a further 100 Asthma courses were arranged for early in 2007
In addition, NHS QIS agreed to fund 200 nurses to undertake COPD Diploma courses in Scotland run by Education for Health, beginning in June 2007. The venues for these courses are spread across Scotland, and each Health Board was invited to nominate candidates for the course.
The courses were all filled, and will all be completed by the end of July 2008. All feedback to date has been very positive and overall this has been a very successful project.

Midwifery Event 14 December 2007
All practice development midwives, consultant midwives, heads of midwifery and LSAMOs were invited to the midwifery event on the 14th December 2007 held in Pollock Halls, Edinburgh. Eileen Moir, director of nursing and practice development, opened the day and was delighted to be able to meet some of the network members. Tiffany Conroy, senior trainer with the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) presented to the group and invited questions about JBI and using it in clinical practice. In the afternoon the network received a presentation from Miranda Page of Queen Margaret University who presented on the findings of the perineal trauma and repair project. The group then had the opportunity to discuss membership and the direction of the network in the future. Feedback from the event has shown that it was a great success and attendees found it useful and informative.
