Connect-in-care - supporting learning & practice development in the care of older people

NHS QIS and NES have commissioned a team from the University of Edinburgh to lead the development of a network supporting learning & practice development in the care of older people. Further information about this work is available on the connect-in-care website http://www.connect-in-care.net/

A DVD resource has recently been designed as part of this work to enable staff who care for older people to raise awareness and understanding of the issues around 'caring with dignity' with their teams and colleagues. Through the DVD, evidence-based practice around dignity can be explored using local examples and understanding of the culture.

Nursing Network

The practice development nursing network has been relaunched and more details can be found in the Nursing Network section of this site.

Nutrition – Eat well, get well, stay well

NHS QIS has developed a ‘protected mealtimes poster’ to support the work associated with the Integrated programme for improving nutritional care in NHSScotland.  Copies have been distributed across all NHS boards in Scotland for use at ward level.  The concept of ‘protected mealtimes’ gives ward staff the opportunity to limit interruptions and provide increased support to patients at mealtimes.

Positive and Innovative Resource: A Mental Health Interactive Database (Scotland) (PIRAMHIDS)

The PIRAMHIDS website was launched on 5 September 2008 at the conference - Delivering Better Mental Health - The Nursing Contribution.

PIRAMHIDS has been created in response to the Review of Mental Health Nursing (2006) and developed in response to Rights, Relationship and Recovery Action Plan -Action 23. Its function is to serve as a facility for sharing positive and innovative practice in mental health with an emphasis in evidence based practice. The aspiration for PIRAMHIDS is that it becomes the primary information sharing site in mental health. The database can be found at www.piramhids.com.

NHS QIS is now actively seeking submissions of positive and innovative practice in mental health to be considered for inclusion on the website.  Contact David Thomson, Mental Health Project Manager (dthomson2@nhs.net) for further information and submission guidelines.
