"Consistently good healthcare which continually improves is our aim."

Maternity Services National Overview January 2007

The Clinical Standards for Maternity Services were developed and published in March 2005 following extensive consultation. Peer review visits to all NHS Board areas in Scotland were conducted between November 2005 and June 2006 to assess performance against the standards.

Local Reports

Local reports on each NHS Board visit, including a detailed assessment of their performance against each standard, are now available.

This report, based on the NHS QIS local report for each NHS Board area, presents a national overview of maternity services within NHSScotland, reporting on the performance across Scotland against the standards, and includes relevant examples of local initiatives.

Examples of Local Initiatives

The NHS QIS Maternity Service Standards review teams identified a number of different initiatives in local health board areas. These initiatives helped the Boards to meet the Standards and also improved the quality of care provided.  To facilitate the sharing of good practice ideas, the review team have drawn together these local initiatives under the standards headings, with contact details to facilitate communication between maternity service providers.

Examples of local initiatives have been extracted from the National Overview and are now available.
