To replace three members of the Consortium who will retire over the next year, SMC would like to appoint new Public Partners. Appointments will be made on a phased basis, with the first appointee joining in December 2007.

As a Public Partner, you will have an active role in promoting and developing public awareness of SMC through its Patient and Public Involvement Group. In addition, you will present information from patient interest groups at the monthly meetings of SMC and have the opportunity to contribute an objective lay perspective for each new medicine that SMC assesses and advises on.

About the Scottish Medicines Consortium
The Scottish Medicines Consortium (SMC) provides advice to NHSScotland on the introduction and use of new medicines and wishes to ensure that the voice of patients, carers and public counts in this process.
Remuneration
The position is not remunerated but you will receive reimbursement for all reasonable travel and dependant carer expenses incurred whilst undertaking SMC duties.
Time commitment
Approximately 2-3 days per month, to include travel time and attendance at SMC meetings, preparatory reading prior to meetings, ad hoc meetings and tasks relating to the development of public involvement, etc.
Location and timing of meetings
SMC meets on the first Tuesday of every month, in central Glasgow, with meetings running from 12:30 – 4:00pm approximately.
Appointment details
The appointment will be for up to three years, with the possibility of re-appointment subject to evidence of effective performance and to satisfying the requirements of the person specification for the role at the time of re-appointment.
Training and development
Appointees will receive an initial training package and ongoing development in the role through shadowing other members of SMC and ad hoc training events.
Interview arrangements
Interviews are expected to take place in November and will be held in central Glasgow.
