Disability Equality Scheme – Annual progress report: November 2007
This is our first published account of the work we have done to implement our Disability Equality Scheme (DES) within NHS Quality Improvement Scotland (NHS QIS). We will report on the work we have done so far with regard to the promotion of disability equality and the elimination of discrimination based on disability.
An analysis of the outcomes will inform future actions that we need to take as we endeavour to meet the needs of the disabled people that we work with and those that use the health services for which we set standards and guidelines.

Fair for All Team
Our Fair for All team delivers equality and diversity within NHS QIS. The team targets the following key areas where change is needed:
- physical access to our offices
- access to our publications and information
- access to this website
The team:
- works in partnership with particular communities to improve our communications and how we reach our audiences
- learns from profiling our workforce and ensure who works for us reflects Scotland's diverse communities
NHS QIS aims to improve and promote cultural competence across the organisation by raisng awareness and promoting good practice, by encouraging the delivery a culturally competent service in partnership with those communities: a service which is culturally sensitive and takes account of the distinctive needs of the diverse groups and communities in Scotland.
