Scottish Woman-Held Maternity Record

The Scottish Woman-Held Maternity Record is an exciting and innovative NHS Scotland development.  Scotland is the first of the UK countries to have a single national unified handheld record for women during their maternity care.  The SWHMR has been developed and revised since 2002 by a national steering group representing all the multi-disciplinary maternity team, all parts of Scotland and service users.  Version 2 of the Record was launched and implemented across Scotland between March and June 2007.  Version 3 of the record was then developed based on feedback from the maternity service from July – November 2007.  Version 3 was consulted upon across the service in October and November 2007 and was piloted in three key maternity sites in Glasgow, Grampian and Lothian.  The consultation and pilot have led to further amendment of the record and to the development of Version 4 which was launched across Scotland in January 2008.
