Project aims and objectives

The programme will address four priority areas:

  1. Ensuring all healthcare staff groups involved in the provision of food and fluid have the knowledge, skills and capability to optimise nutritional care as part of the patient experience through the development of a capability framework and commissioning of educational initiatives  (Lead: NHS Education)
  2. Improving clinical practice by developing and implementing a practice development programme of work, building on the issues identified during the first review against the standards and the Audit Scotland Report : Catering for Patients A Follow Up Report (Lead: QIS )
  3. Developing and implementing joint planning and service delivery objectives across clinical and facilities teams through the implementation of the forthcoming National Catering and Nutrition Specification for Food and Fluid Provision in Hospitals in Scotland (Leads HFS/NHS QIS)
  4. Optimum utilisation of resources to minimise wastage that would otherwise have a negative financial, environmental and service delivery impact. (Lead: HFS)
