Our 4 corporate objectives are reflected in our work programme, they are:
- Improving quality – To lead advances in the quality of care in NHSScotland based on a continually refreshed framework for quality improvement
- Making an impact – To make a demonstrable impact on the quality and safety of patient care and treatment
- Sharing the knowledge – To contribute to the advancement of knowledge and understanding on quality improvement
- Working effectively – To ensure NHS QIS delivers its functions effectively and efficiently.
Working Effectively
Over the past year we have significantly improved the way we develop our work programme.
Our Programme Board now considers all projects and their contribution to NHSScotland priorities before making recommendations to our board.
Programme board is made up of:
- NHSQIS non-executives
- NHSQIS directors
- a lay representative.
Criteria for our work programme
Having taken account of the findings of this consultation, We now consider projects for the work programme using the following criteria:
- Initial screening – Work must contribute to at least one of our corporate objectives.
- Appropriateness – We are the right organisation to take forward the work.
- Policy relevance – This work is relevant to current policy affecting NHSScotland.
- Organisational fit – Work is a direct result of an exsiting project or fits within our planned work programme.
- Resources – We have the resources to complete this work.
- Impact – The impact has been considered and has a quality dimention (safety, effectiveness, timeliness, patient centeredness, efficiency, equity)
- Implementability – barriers to implementing our findings have been identified
The improvements to our processes and work programme development have been informed by a 2008 consultation. This was an extensive consultation with key stakeholders such as:
- Scottish Government
- NHS boards.
