About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a high profile national role within our Practice Development Directorate.  We are looking for a Nurse Consultant in Healthcare Associated Infection (HAI) to join our team to drive and facilitate the implementation of standards and best practice in relation to HAI and support the work of the Scottish Patient Safety Programme. 

As a clinical expert, you will work closely with the NHS QIS Consultant in Public Health Medicine (HAI) and with other Nurse Consultants at Scottish Government and Health Protection Scotland to ensure a coherent and cohesive approach is taken to the prevention and management of HAI across Scotland. This will also require you to undertake clinical work within a specified NHS Board up to one day per week.

Your skills and experience

The Nurse Consultant (HAI) role demands high level expertise and experience in the fields of HAI, practice development and patient safety.  You will have a masters degree level qualification and hold 1st level registration with the NMC.
 
You will possess a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of policy in relation to HAI and patient safety. In addition, a sound working knowledge / experience of research and audit methodology and leading practice change across professional groups and organisations are essential.

You will have excellent written and oral communications skills, along with the ability to use initiative and think creatively.  Strong interpersonal skills are essential along with the ability to develop and sustain relationships at all levels across organisations and disciplines.  Travel throughout Scotland, including occasional overnight stays is required
