Evidence-based assessment reports

NHS QIS produces quarterly horizon scanning reports for the Scottish Health Technologies Group, in order to appraise the effectiveness of new and existing technologies (including new devices and areas where there may be evidence to support either investment or disinvestment) and aids the implementation of evidence-based recommendations on technologies within NHS boards. Each report provides summaries of:

  • National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) technology appraisals published and information on the NICE forward work plan
  • NHS Quality Improvement Scotland (NHS QIS) HTA programme and related implementation activity
  • Other UK and international HTAs
  • Reports on new and emerging non-drug technologies
  • Health services research methodological papers of interest
  • Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network (SIGN) guidelines
  • NHS Health Scotland Scottish perspectives on NICE public health guidance
  • NICE interventional procedures.
For MTAs produced by NICE, the NHS QIS HTA programme and other UK and international HTAs, summaries outline the technology under consideration, patient and comparator groups and highlight the key clinical and cost effectiveness results and any patient/safety issues. Summaries conclude by providing background on Scottish context and directing SHTG members to existing sources of evidence.
