Neurological Health Services Clinical Standards (PDF, 691K, 1min, 41secs)
Implementation plan (PDF, 61K, 12secs)
NHS Quality Improvement Scotland (NHS QIS) is committed to an on-going work programme begun in 2007 and continuing over the next five years, to support continuous quality improvement within Neurological Services across Scotland. This covers the three elements of the integrated cycle for improvement:
- advice and guidance,
- implementation and improvement support,
- assessment, monitoring and reporting.

January 2010 launch
The development of these standards is the first part of this programme, and since this work first started, we have been reviewing our strategic direction and undertaking a shift in working functions by formally supporting the implementation of our advice and guidance as a fundamental part of our activities. The standards were formally launched on 21 January 2010, along with an Implementation & Improvement Support Plan for NHS Boards.

Quality Improvement Groups
Central to this will be work with individual NHS Boards, healthcare professionals and the public to establish local Quality Improvement Groups. We will work with these groups to identify priority areas for attention according to local need and agree key performance indicators to demonstrate continuous quality improvement, develop systems for data collection to allow continuous quality improvement locally, share good practice and facilitate national audit.
Linking with key initiatives
This programme will ensure that we have the appropriate links with other key national initiatives including the Long Term Conditions Action Plan and the Healthcare Quality Strategy for Scotland. In the meantime the standards have been made available on our website to allow those with an interest in neurological services to begin to familiarise themselves with their content.
