Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) project

We are setting national standards to quality assure key aspects of COPD services across NHSScotland.

This project will address:

  • variations in current practice
  • identified quality gaps.

Targeting 7 key service areas

We have identified the key areas our standards need to focus on. These are:

  • Multidisciplinary structure at an NHS board level
  • Staff training, patient education
  • Case finding
  • Diagnosis
  • Management of stable COPD
  • Management of exacerbations
  • Palliative care.

Project team

This project is led by:

John Haughney, Clinical Advisor, NHS QIS.

The standards development project group includes:

  • clinical and non-clinical specialists
