The guidance states that NICE is unable to recommend the use in the NHS of gefitinib for the second-line treatment of locally advanced or metastatic non-small-cell lung cancer because no evidence submission was received from the manufacturer or sponsor of the technology.
NHSScotland should note that:
1. Recommendations of NICE Single Technology Appraisals (STAs) have no status in NHS Scotland.
2. The Scottish Medicines Consortium (SMC) expect to issue advice to NHS Scotland on gefitinib in non-small cell lung cancer in January 2010.
