The Accountable Officers’ Network

We host meetings for the National Accountable Officers’ Network (Scotland) every 3 months. The network is the national oversight group for the Controlled Drugs (Supervision of Management and Use) Regulations of 2006. It ensures NHSScotland implements and complies with these regulations.

This network:

  • develops standard operating procedures and national guidance
  •  is an opportunity to share experience, lessons learned, challenges and solutions.

Implementing Controlled Drug (Supervision Regulations (2006)

The Accountable Officers’ network formed in November 2007. It promotes and maximises national shared learning from experience. NHS boards, independent hospitals and hospices can nominate an Accountable Officer. Officers have associated responsibility for their organisation.

Controlled drugs working group

In 2008, the Controlled Drugs Working Group was formally established. It looks at the operational practice needed for NHSScotland to be fully compliant with the regulations. This is a sub group of the Accountable Officers’ network. It brings together NHS board staff who support implementation in their NHS board.
