The following have been considered by NHS Quality Improvement Scotland through its revised procedure of processing of NICE Guidance:

As no important differences were identified for this NICE Guidance, NHS Quality Improvement Scotland advises that it is as valid for Scotland as for England and Wales and no other publications on the NICE Guidance will be issued by NHS Quality Improvement Scotland.

The Scottish Diabetes Group (Chair: Professor Andrew Morris) is the national steering group responsible for supporting and monitoring the Scottish Diabetes Framework. The Scottish Diabetes Group has set up a number of subgroups to fulfil its remit including the Patient Focus Implementation Group (Chair: Anna Thomson).
The Patient Focus Implementation Group has identified two priorities - patient information and patient empowerment. A conference is being organised on 9 July by the Patient Focus Implementation Group in order to assist in the development of a model of empowerment for people with diabetes in Scotland. The conference will look at dose adjustment for normal eating (DAFNE) and other patient education/empowerment models with a view to piloting and evaluating a patient empowerment approach in Scotland. NHS Quality Improvement Scotland advice represents the evidence-based view of NHS Quality Improvement Scotland. NHSScotland should take account of this advice from NHS Quality Improvement Scotland and ensure that recommended drugs or treatments are made available to meet clinical need. However, this advice does not override or replace the individual responsibility of health professionals to make appropriate decisions in the circumstances of their individual patients, in consultation with the patient and/or guardian or carer.
