NHS Quality Improvement Scotland has issued a revised process for Comments on National Institute for Clinical Guidance (NICE) Guidance to enable them to be issued immediately in Scotland
NHS Quality Improvement Scotland has introduced a revised process for Comments on National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) Guidance to enable them to be issued immediately in Scotland.
The revised process will mean that health professionals in Scotland receive the NICE Guidance at the same time as the NHS in England and Wales. This should eliminate any perceived delay in treatments being available for patients in Scotland and ensure health professionals are advised of the status of the NICE Guidance in Scotland when the guidance is reported in the media.
This process was approved for immediate use by the NHS QIS Board at its 31 July 2003 meeting.
Comments on Technology Appraisal Guidance issued by NICE have been provided since May 2001. These Comments identify any important differences in how the Guidance should be applied in Scotland, compared to England/Wales.
NHS Quality Improvement Scotland does not assess the evidence used by NICE in forming its advice and does not 'approve NICE Guidance. Comments focus on any implications for NHSScotland arising from the NICE Guidance.
